Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.

Played a friends Copy and glad I didn’t buy it. Not that it’s a bad game, only not one I see pulling down right away

[puzzle 7.5 replay 8 invest 7.7 solo 5] surprisingly fine puzzle + one of the best thematic immersion I've enjoyed (beats all the dino/theme park themed games or Obsession for me)

so inoffensively above average that is demands attention for bringing some fresh ideas to the table and just generally not sucking in any way. The rules are very simple to pick up and the aspect of having 3-4 huge turns in the game is satisfying with lots of luck mitigation and ways to score points. It has a Brass-like scoring progression and tightness; inadvertently in my eyes. The art is unique and the text is maybe the 1 key miss in this game as the cards are both too wordy and those words and too tiny. Viticulture will be brought up a lot as a better or similar game--fairly, but not accurately on all counts--and Viticulture does mop it on cards. Jamie really put walls of text on them but the iconography and color palette is a true sommelier's kiss. As a Kickstarter, it was run so authentically and transparently that the campaign effectively showcased this game as a classic before it ever hit a printer. Dave Beck seems genuinely looks like the next great American designer and he is going about it so far in a very humble manner. You can tell he has great reverence for the classic games but that reverence appears as an apprenticeship and very considered over a long time. Distilled reportedly had been swirling around in his head for years, however a bad game on a CV is sometimes worse than no game. It was more important to truly knock it out of the park on game one and he did. Not many games these days do anything interesting or unique. Most land as an expansion, a re-theme, a re-implementation, IP trash, sequel, Kickstarter miniature orgy or just a straight up ripoff of 8 separate games. Distilled as well shares a few basic Euro mechanics yet the point scoring method is unique in a few ways. I bet Dave is a big fan of Dinosaur Island :)
