Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

Dragonaris
Being the Dungeon Master that slays wandering Heroes makes this theme interesting. As you explore the dungeon corridors you run into Hero Parties that try to put you out of commission. In this solo experience, all parties use either Might, Agility or Magic to survive the day. It is all about dice duels. The monster you choose to guard your place comes with certain attributes and abilities, all of them represented in dice. The best die rolls score hits nullifying Hero parties while the worse produce health damage and probably loss of time. If either of them falls to zero you lose the game. It has fine components so much for the thick tiles as well as the acrylic tokens/pieces. The rules are easily digested and during game play there are a lot of opportunities to deal extra damage on Hero parties or alternatives to cancel their attributes in combat. If you manage to attain the objective of each scenario you win the game. It can get repetitive or easily out of the game. I would not mind getting it out the shelf occasionally; not bad but not thrilling either.

Setup is more involved, and the rules are tricky. I *want* to like it, the art and pieces are gorgeous (it comes with lovely 2D standees), but first two playthroughs were frustrating and it's difficult to beat. Am going to try a few more playthroughs before making a ruling on it though, it might be one of those 'better grasp strategy before playing' kind of games. I wish it had a real co-op version.
