3/4 of the way through, definitely the most interesting and dynamic dungon-crawler I've played. App integration is nearly flawless, level design and variety is amazing, production quality is top notch, story is nothing groundbreaking but satisfying nonetheless. And as a miniature painter, these are some of the most detailed you are going to find outside of Warhammer. Only negative is that character progression is a bit simplistic and leaves a little to be desired.

It's really good. Like really really good. If you played Road to Legend and liked it this will blow your socks off. I would like to dispute bosbill's comment. Perhaps sir if you played the game you would realize that it is not a cash grab. What I think is you don't want to pay the price for the game or cannot afford it so you bash the game to feel better about not getting to play it. If you had played it clearly your first comment wouldn't be talking about the art or 3d terrain. This is just what you saw and made an assumption off of.

Love that core gameplay is very streamlined. The card flipping mechanics is interesting and provides a layer of depth to the choices. The flexibility of choosing which characters to bring for each quest and how the XP system works meant all characters progresses at almost the same pace (I say almost because some skill cards are unfortunately tied to Feats, which you can only complete if you bring that character during quests - however, we did unlock all skills for 4 out of 6 characters, and only missing 2 out of 7 skills for the other 2 characters). There are some element of luck from the dice, but generally the results always give at least one success. There are also ways to mitigate them. This game also has one of the best, or maybe the best, app implementation (for reference, I use an iPad). It tracks all the fiddly stuff and allows for interesting applications of upgrades not commonly possible in traditional board games. The weapon parts upgrades are the best example of this. The crafting portion of Descent LotD is a blast. It's reminiscent of playing an video game RPG where you can customise your loadout in various ways depending on your playstyle, contemplating incremental differences between every new equipment. The Feats system tracked in the app is also brilliant, and it gives players an additional layer of options to consider. Components are generally great. The minis are somewhat a double-edged sword. On one hand, the details are AMAZING. Seriously, these minis paint themselves. On the other hand, they are fragile so handle with care. I accidentally dropped one of the golems and it snapped off the base! Some of the 3D cardboard terrains will peel at the edges, but that is expected given you are always attaching and detaching stuff. It's generally very minor even after a full playthrough of the Act I campaign. On the subject of 3D terrains, I do have an issue with them. But I also see the benefits of having them (I can't make up my mind). I did mention the core gameplay is streamlined, but the need to pause the game and assemble the next room or space is really disruptive and feels fiddly. I averaged around 2h per quest (2p 2-handed each), and I think about 20% of the time are spent setting up newly discovered rooms or locations. It's annoying, but at the same time, I do feel that the 3D terrains enhance the experience.
