This mechanic requires you to place a bid, usually monetary, on items in an auction of goods in order to enhance your position in the game. These goods allow players future actions or improve a position. The auction consists of taking turns placing bids on a given item until one winner is established, allowing the winner to take control of the item being bid on. Usually there is a game rule that helps drop the price of the items being bid on if no players are interested in the item at its current price.
Auction/Bidding
Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

This expansion really adds a lot to the base game! It makes Cyclades a much "heavier" game with more crucial decisions to be made and much more interaction in a game which is a euro at heart but tried to add a twist of ameritrash. The expansion comes with 4 miniexpansions. I like most of them, though the first "expansion" about free placement before starting the game is kind of meh. The Hades miniexpansion makes it a more aggressive game as you can now attack by other means than sacrificing to Ares, and this increased amount of player interaction is definitely a plus in my book. The heroes are very powerful but expensive to keep. The Divine Favors can be quite powerful, and now it isn't automatically a good option to win the favor of the first god in order to get first shot at buying the mythological creatures - you might even want to win the last god (not counting Apollon) as you get the favor of the new tile. But if you do so, you probably won't get a good mythological creature. Interesting! If you like Cyclades you should definitely get this expansion! And even if you didn't like Cyclades, perhaps because you thought the player interaction was too minor and the choices too few and uninteresting in the base game, you might want to take a look at this expansion.

Great expansion for very good game. I love everyting about it: heroes, new monsters, new gods, priestesses... only the deployment variant seems a bit unfair.

This is a terrible expansion. (That's something you don't hear every day.) Usually I'll play an expansion and never want to play the base game again... not the case with this. It adds a bunch of unnecessary moving parts to an otherwise streamlined game. Hades is unnecessary and overpowered. The champions are a cool idea, but add a lot of randomness to a game that did pretty well without that much randomness. The magic items are cool looking as well, but again, random. I think that's what this comes down to: This expansion LOOKS really cool. But the base game did not need to be expanded upon.
