Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.
Tile Placement
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

+ The spatial element of developing your peninsula by stacking tiles is brilliant; Watching the snowball build as you are able to take increasingly interesting and complex moves feels really good. - The components feel so lackluster, especially compared to other more-recent games that I've acquired. Why it's previously-owned: The poor components were glaring when playing, especially with the other outstanding games that have come out lately, and the decision space didn't seem to be as wide as I thought it would feel after a handful of plays.

Tight game with gentle player interaction. It is so exciting to attempt to achieve the improbable goals it sets us. I enjoy the simple worker- and tile-placement mechanics but there is not too much replayability for two players (how I mostly play games) over larger player counts. I would, however, be happy to play this on most occasions due to the light rules and contrasting intensely involved and intricate game sessions.

No clue how to get an engine going. Barely able to have meaningful turns on first play. Rewards lots of replay, I'm sure, but not my thing. 28 pages of rules...this game is a little too heavy for me.
