In Action Point (AP) Allowance System games, each player is allotted a certain amount of points per round. These points can be spent on available actions, until the player does not have enough remaining to "purchase" any more actions.

Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

I usually save my comments on art and production until the end, but in Conan both are so strikingly good that I just have to say that up front. The game you play with all this lovely stuff is a skirmish pitting the players' heroes against a bunch of bad guys controlled by a GM. While I admired the simple mechanics that make Conan very accessible, the alternating stop-start of hero turns felt odd to me. And while the heroic actions of the heroes generate some narrative, lets not confuse this with actual role-playing. Ultimately, Conan feels all dressed up with nowhere but another skirmish to go. All that remains to be said is that the rules are indeed a mess.

A light medium rule set that produces appropriately swashbuckling play. Clearly a work of love, successful in capturing that strange mix of twenties pulp writing and seventies pulp cover design that so many of us remember.

Wow, the King Pledge comes with a lot of stuff. The shipping box was so huge that somewhere in the shipping process the whole thing was dropped with nasty damage to a corner of the main game box, which was on the bottom of everything. Fortunately with the cardboard reinforcement at both ends of the game box, the boards were not damaged at all. It's what's inside that counts, and this one looks to be a longtime "keeper." Beautifully produced except for a couple of "blurry" minis such as the lion.
