In-game money is bet on different commodities in hope that that particular commodity will become the most valuable as the game progresses. Often the values of the commodities are continually changing throughout the game, and the players buy and sell the commodities to make money off of their investment.
Commodity Speculation
Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.

One of those games that walks the razor edge between being resource constrained and having just enough if you plan properly.

8 plays / 2,3,4 players LIKE: Good elements of engine building and map maneuvering. The market was very interesting and felt strategic. With 4 players, and even with 3 players, the map felt tight, which is good. I liked the use of the import goods and how they scored based on rarity at the very end. DISLIKE: Very similar to Terra Mystica in some ways, but the market manipulation sets it apart. The icons were informative, but tiny. Some of the pieces felt a bit tiny as well. 2 player map felt a little open. Teaching the settlement cluster end scoring and the neighboring bonuses, are difficult to explain and grasp in a first play. OVERALL: Very fun, lots to enjoy in this game. There is nice game variability with the clan powers and different sides of the maps. The maps may need to be modified even further for a tighter 2 or 3 player experience. The game feels familiar to Terra Mystica, is there a need for both? I initially think TM is a bit more unique and has more to explore, but this plays smoother, and easier to teach.

9/17/2022 -> Two main reasons I'm keeping this for the time being: 1) Takes up very little shelf space 2) To hopefully lure people into playing Terra Mystica with me ; ) [ I ain't gonna lie about that! ] I learned this one before Terra Mystica ... which eventually helped me ease into Terra Mystica, so Clans is special to me for that very reason. But after playing Terra Mystica, this one felt like a cheap knock-off like you'd find at Pacific Mall. The round-scoring objectives feel rather inconsequential compared to the OG Grand-Daddy. Although, the contracts and the dynamic market board add a nice change of pace. Still a very good game. I generally like farming games and Clans does a good job at retheming TM to the farm setting, which is definitely less gloomy than Terra Mystica.
