I found this game to be a bit too random for my liking. My gaming group likes it, so I'll play it if suggested, but I'd never be the one to suggest it. Resources are determined by dice rolls matching planets you have colonized. I don't mind such a mechanic as a smaller part of a game's economy, but I'm not a fan of it being the overwhelming majority of a game's resource generation. Add to that the number of turns it takes to go explore new planets producing resources you need only to discover it yields that resource on a rarely rolled number...that's just not really for me. The encounters are interesting, in theory, but they are also almost completely random. You can mitigate results a little by upgrading your ship, but you have no real way of knowing which stat a given encounter will check/test beforehand or which option will even lead to such a check. They often ask you to offer 0-3 resources. Sometimes the "good" result comes from offering nothing. Just as often it comes from offering 3 resources. Or 2. Or 1. You can also get robbed if you have more than seven resources and roll a seven on your turn, so saving up, or even have fortuitous rolls from opponents between your turns can come back to randomly bite you.

FULL DISCLOSURE: The game is missing 2 of 40 cardboard Fame Medal Pieces, and 1 of 24 plastics Boosters. Although, in principle, it would be possible in a 4-player game for all 4 players to get 6 boosters each, such a scenario would appear extremely unlikely. Similarly, we never saw the Fame Medal Pieces anywhere close to being used up. Also missing are any Spare Tokens; the rulebook notes these, but we may have discarded any such cardboard pieces thinking they were just disposable parts of the punchboards. Condition: Very good condition. Played five or six times.

3-4, best 3 Hex grid, dice rolling, income, race, trading, random production ---Differs from Settlers: no route/road building; spaceship travel instead. More catch-up systems in place for those behind.
