Castles of Mad King Ludwig
In the tile-laying game Castles of Mad King Ludwig, players are tasked with building an amazing, extravagant castle for King Ludwig II of Bavaria…one room at a time. Each player acts as a building contractor who is adding rooms to the castle he’s building while also selling his services to other players.

I like that there's a ton of stuff going on in this game if you pay attention, but you don't need to if you just want to have fun and build a weird castle. The random elements of card/room draws mean that new/casual players can be competitive, which is a huge bonus. Traded it on, as it was a bit fiddly to play with the family, and gaming groups wanted to play other games instead.

This is a great, fun, and well designed game, although it is a bit slower and more fiddly than Suburbia... however let me tell you a story: I bought the game at a con, as an experienced board gamer. The components were as I expected, as was the size of the box. However I can't help but reflect on how careless the product design is. A person new to the hobby, picks up this exciting looking game and buys it. They punch the game, and have a box full of tiny bits floating around. No insert, no baggies. They don't realise the game expects them to supply these and as a result the game sits unloved on a shelf since it is so fiddly to set up, and half the tiny pieces are missing since they fell out of the box. It really puts me off Bezier games productions.

I am not a big fan of tile placement but it was more enjoyable as a solitaire puzzle rather then something like Carcassonne that you are collaboratively building and messing with each other. Cardboard quality was lacking and starting to wrap out of the box, no insert, and incredible waste of space in the box. However the group I was playing with really enjoyed it so it made for a good experience with everyone taking pictures of their castles.
