Pattern Building is a system where players place game components in specific patterns in order to gain specific or variable game results. For example: placing chips on 2, 4, 6, 8 on a board gets the player an action card they can use later in the game.

Love, love, love this game...vibes of Colosseum and Havoc: The Hundred Years War, but solidly better than both those games. My only knock is that there is almost too much to track to master the set-up, and the colors are a bit too pastel for ease of play. Otherwise, a true classic and another Renegade Games victory.

Played a couple times and this game is such a different euro with the wonderfully puzzle-y aspect of building your towers. The tension of going to festivals or ensuring you have the people/training ops you need for future festivals and performances... so good and super thematic. I didn't feel like I was only making hard choices, but making decisions based on how well I knew I could get my team to perform in the future. Definitely recommend Castell!

Played this game at the Westside Gamers meetup. Seems like a solid strategy game, with a lot of moving pieces. I found it was hard to plan several moves ahead because the spinning wheel, rotating first player, and drafting was keep track of in a four-player game. I ran out of special action tokens early (in part because we forgot to rotate the wheel one turn) so I didn't have a productive last move. I would play this game again.
