Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.

KEEPER My son really likes this - and so do I. It's got a touch of Monopoly about it. You acquire sites for shops or houses and objective cards direct you to different parts of the board. There are three 'districts' to build in, there's a newspaper headline that imposes a condition each round, there's an income track that pays out every so often and ways of improving your shops and houses to raise their rent. All the while you use a hand of cards to get you round the board. There are other rewards on the side. It's a quiet game, looks nice on the table and one I'm glad to own. You wouldn't want to play it all the time but the rules are so easy that each time you get it to the table there isn't a huge learning curve to get back up to speed. It's completely different from Wingspan (birds feature here too) but has a similar calming vibe.

Feels hugely underrated. A really beautiful table presence, with a juicy array of options and interesting decisions every turn. Also boosted by a really smooth teach.

This game felt very lackluster. I bought it for the beautiful artwork (which you never should). It was kind of a more gamy version of Monopoly. But moving around the board and just buying buildings was not fun to me. I hope other people will like it though, since I appreciate Thunderworks Games.
