Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.

A deep euro with interesting mechanics (dice are a resource, you never roll them) and gorgeous artwork to boot. It has this clever Feldian point salad feel to it and the iconography is absolutely brilliant.
Bayushi Sezaru
Bitoku is a “super euro”, with lots of everything: a gazillion of pieces, a bunch of mechanics and definitely a lot of visual over saturation. The theme is kinda “Studio Ghibli”, but it emerges only from the artwork, and the game is definitely a big fat point salad. The main mechanic is dice placement (one I usually like a lot), but before you can place a die, you have to unlock it by playing a card. The dice placement part is my favorite, but I don’t care too much for the card part: the pseudo-deckbuilding feels underwhelming and not completely necessary. The buildings also leave me a bit cold: the part where you use another player’s and he gets a bonus isn’t used much. The final part I don’t have a particular fondness for is the tile drafting: butterflies, mitama and crystals come out randomly and order turn for picking first feels too important. Furthermore, I have a feeling that crystals could be very dominant. Bitoku is a good gamer’s game, and I would like to explore it, but the visual “weight” it has is a huge detriment… and the fact that the feeling of “toomuchness” could not wear off even after a few plays is another pull down…

A really well-designed game, hampered by a foreign and confusing theme. The art is fantastic, but the level of unfamiliar terminology and iconography made this game MUCH harder to learn and play than it should have been. For a medium-heavy Euro, I would dread ever trying to teach this. Still though, the mechanics fit together quite nicely.
