Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.

This is a great game, and the mechanisms gel well together. It feels different and a bit fresh, though the mechanics together do not bring anything distinctly new to the table. The solo mode is hard to run though, and I would not recommend this for solo only.

+ - beautiful Japanese-style graphics and theme - elements of a deck builder mechanism with a clever idea of removing cards and getting points for them - interesting mechanism of -1 on dices when crossing a river with an additional punishment for 6 (which usually means blocking actions for other players) - - too many absolutely unnecessary actions to choose - very unintuitive icons of actions - too complex rules for a quite simple in mechanism euro game (complexity does not have any purpose at all, just complex actions for doing other complex actions) - rulebook difficult to read

First mistake: Bitoku is a game with a difficult rulebook that becomes a lot easier after watching some videos here on BGG. Second mistake: the game board is much too busy due to bright colors. Third mistake: again a game where you have to make many choices so that it can take an extremely long time. Still, there were some good ideas in the game, such as alternating cards and dice. I also thought the pairing of the dragonflies with the mitara spirits was a good idea. Still, I won't be replaying this game very often because of the overwhelming sight that hurts the eyes and the strange theme that I think has been tacked on.
