Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration.Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.

It's a weird game. The pre-haunt phase is basically the world's longest game setup for the part that actually matters: the haunt. But the exploration is kind of fun. I am reminded of its pointlessness as I play though.

Luck plays a overwhelming role in this game. The position of the players after the reveal, what items you find, what rooms you walk into... I once had a game where one player never did any thing, because the first room they explored dropped them into the basement. And their team still won, thanks to finding all the right items. It CAN be fun when played with the right crowd... But any game meets that definition. Check out Freelancers, or good old roleplaying games. Call of Cthulhu takes a bit of effort to game master, but will offer a much better experience.

Still feels un-playtested with broken haunts and at lower play counts, it feels completely busted and untested. Have played 7 haunts so far and it just wreaks of a lack of care. I do still love it and I love so many aspects of it, but the haunts are almost always not good. The lead up to the haunt is the strongest aspect of this game. With more players, it’s a much better game, but if it’s 3-6, 3 people should be able to play with no issues; sadly, this isn’t the case. I love the game, and want to love it, but I can’t see myself wasting any more time on this or any other edition of the game.
