Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.
Variable Player Powers
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

+ The Leeghwater Project + XO Luciani & Battista + Executive Officers Pack A + Executive Officers Pack B + The Nile Affair Expansion

This is one of the few games I feel like you would not only need to watch the standard tutorial videos on, but even watch a playthough at 3-4p to get a feel for the game. The scoring track is terribly designed for first players as it's a game that will actively punish you if you don't understand what to do. Once you get the hang of it, though, it's a very complex game that flows well (no pun) and gives the consistently interesting option of screwing your opponents over. I do love the closed economy loop all players host, though I do question the frugality of the resources, relatively speaking. Concrete Mixers in particular are a bane, and one faction with the golden worker just seems to be overwhelmingly stronger than the others due to being able to chain two actions together. Played with the Leeghwater expansion, but aside from one slot on one of the boards that got gobbled up quickly, those boards added basically nothing to the game. I'll need to give it another go, but quite disappointed in this overall (it didn't help that we played the Architect special worker wrong, to be fair.).

This rate only for gameplay not component and KS management; The gameplay is nice, good worker placement game and nice resources management. This is a very good euro game If the rate would include components and KS management - 4/10; The ks's component choice(s) felt cheap and not justify the price tag. They used to make average production games and now I have seen their 'the best quality ever' which is fully disappointed. Not a single feeling of a premium here (do not forget the price ). Felt sorry for the designers.
