Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
In games with a trading mechanic, the players can exchange game items between each other.

The game has sparks of brilliance with several good ideas, the hand management, the strong theme, victory points turned into game timer, public quests etc. Unfortunately the hand management, although interesting in theory, is way too limiting to offer any meaningful chances to out-manouver the opponents which I believe to be a paramount necessity in an asymmetrical dudes on a map game. I don't necessarily agree with the comments about the game being unbalanced. I see what the designer had in mind with creating the different giant races, going from quantity to quality and everything in between. I think that could work amazingly but the problem lies in the hand-managment that is way too limiting. You realistically get to do every action a couple of times and some are so crucial to the game, like recruiting or attacking that they are simply not enough. I feel like an expansion or a new version could easily make this game perfect. The game also offers great value with good components and art at a 40$ price range. I would still choose to play this game over most dudes on a map game, like Lords of Hellas, Blood Rage or Dominant Species but it doesn't even remotely compare to the absolute benchmark that is Forbidden Stars.

Dudes on the map game set in a D&D fantasy world. The card command mechanic is very interesting and reminiscence of how Concordia's cards are played. The twist here is in the sequence of cards played. Certain cards played earlier or later will give bonuses to the command. I like the simplified battle system too. The race asymmetry in strength and objectives are well balanced. I have a few issues with the game though. The leaders and regular giants are just tokens yet the champions are these huge "miniatures". At least have some consistencies in playing pieces, publishers! Also at lower player counts, the NPCs felt a little weird like they're just waiting to be slaughtered. I didn't like this about most dudes on the map game and its the same here.

Cool, fairly straightforward DOAM. I like how different the various giant tribes feel, each having different goals and parts of the map they want to get toward. The large miniatures do a pretty good job of conveying these large creatures having territorial disputes, with smaller races caught in the crossfire. Pacing can feel a little slow between the battle phases and how cards come out, but the game actually wraps up fairly quickly. Art could be better (it's D&D, I get it game!) but the component quality is pretty good. A little better than I expected to be honest, solid game.
