In-game money is bet on different commodities in hope that that particular commodity will become the most valuable as the game progresses. Often the values of the commodities are continually changing throughout the game, and the players buy and sell the commodities to make money off of their investment.
Commodity Speculation
Variable Phase Order implies that turns may not be played the same way as before and/or after.
Variable Phase Order
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

I still have yet to explore the full game but there is a ton of potential in the early plays of the "basic" version of the game. Probably a top game if I can get it played more

I enjoyed playing Arkwright for the first time with four players. I liked playing with the actions, the purchasing and upgrading of factories, mechanizing to save money, and producing and selling goods such that my stock value went up as much as possible. On the other hand, truth be told, I am not a particularly fervent fan of hard core financial games. In a certain sense, I feel about Arkwright as I do about the game Automobile. Both are very well designed, financial "grind out a profit or fail" games, but both are just not high on my "want to play again" list. Is that how I want to spend my game time? Not particularly. On the other hand, if you love "grind out a profit or fail" games, you should definitely try Arkwright.

I have only played Spinning Jenny thus far but am already enamored. This is a strategy-loving, forward planning dream. It also has a rule book that sucks to learn from -- a teacher will ease the pain. But given that Waterframe will add considerably more to think about and do, I'm pretty sure my rating will only rise. Update: Bumped it to a 9.
