Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

I was skeptical of the core game, since those early scenarios felt lacking. However, after finishing the Dunwich and Carcosa campaigns, I can finally see why this game is highly rated. Better than any other Arkham game (and I've played them all, AH (1st, 2nd, 3rd), EH, the dice game, etc.) these have great stories, terrific locations that get murkier and more dangerous, and it has some great twists. It feels like a dangerous ride. It doesn't really start to cook until the Blood on the Altar. But believe me that this tells a cinematic story from a farmhouse to Miskatonic to cultists to jounreys in time & space. It's what I always wanted in these Arkham games: to feel like I am uncovering a mystery, saving the world, but knowing that I am a hair from losing my own sanity.

Simple in concept, but quite a great extension of the base game. Recommended for first campaign (avoid EotE).

This is my second full campaign and it was a little bit of a bummer. EOTE set the bar really high in Story telling. Dunwich is more like the core box. While I rewinded "Undimensioned and Unseen" 3-times because of unlucky first few rounds and just bad design, I loved the ending with "Lost in Time and Space". The rest is ok, but nothing worth telling about. The campaign has one big problem overall for me, that's the experience points. I want to build cool decks. With often just 1 new card per scenario it doesn't feel existing.
