Pattern Building is a system where players place game components in specific patterns in order to gain specific or variable game results. For example: placing chips on 2, 4, 6, 8 on a board gets the player an action card they can use later in the game.
Pattern Building
Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.

Meat Robot
Totally unique game. I’ve never played anything else like it. It’s easy to learn, hard to master, and the strategy is quite deep. Looking forward to adding this to my collection.

Geez, where to begin. Box says 1-4 players, 60-90 minutes. And it's got cute anthropomorphic animal champions. Okay it should be a lighthearted and fun quick capture-the-flag type thing. Then the rule book is like 30 pages or so. And didn't really need to be. And 28 pages are dedicated to the 2p head-to-head. And then a paragraph on 3 or four players (spoilers: it's a 2v2 at four players. And at 3 players, it's still a 2v2, just one person has to play both partners). Then there's a page on solo rules. And omg they are bad! The solo rules are written so poorly that I played from 2030 until 0230 and still wasn't sure I played correctly. Moreover, the solo rules say "the solo game mostly plays the same as the 2p game, but without these mechanics:" and then they list almost every mechanic in the game. So the solo game was a completely different game entirely than the multiplayer game. I've tried it at three, and it was terrible and the other two people asked if they could just forfeit so we could play something else. I played it at 2p with a gaming buddy. And it was a slog. It would be like 3 hours to get 1 point. Finally, he, too, asked if he could surrender and we play something better. Because of this, I tried it solo. And it wasn't even the same game. Haven't played it at four, but I'm guessing it's terrible. And I might try to solo it again on a harder difficulty but I don't know... so unless my wife loves it, it's probably not gonna stay in my collection. There is nothing else like AlderQuest. And it bums me out. I want to love it. I love the art. I like the hero abilities. I like that they tried something new with a match 3 system like the mobile games, but not made that the whole game (like connect 4 or tic tac toe). I like the table presence. I like the mechanisms. But somehow when they put it all together, they made a mess of it, which is sad because I like the company so much.

It's really strange, and my girlfriend absolutely hated it. I personally think there's something there, and need to try it again with someone else. The rulebook is needlesly convoluted and could be much shorter: The game isn't actually that complicated if you have someone with solid knowledge teaching it. EDIT: It's a bit crap. Field phase just doesn't work at all and it can become a big stalemate. I paid 8€ and it probably was worth that
