Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.
Variable Player Powers
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

A lot fo thought went into the theme of this. I wish the art work was more fresh and fun but overall its actually a neat little game. I have it signed by the designer

Great game. It is simple to learn but at the same time there are many important decisions to make each turn. Fantastic. The graphic design could be better though, it is not visually great to look at.

I love theme and this has to be the best I have seen in years. So much fun to point fingers at your opponents, accusing them of witchcraft. Encourages role playing. I naturally love to blame people so this game was cathartic for me. Plus, each card is based on a real person. I felt bad winning, having arrrested the most people. Loved reading the history behind these events and the people. Game is also in a small box, but offers quite a bit of gameplay, more than San Juan, for example. A lot of interaction and special abilities for each character that will take some plays to figure out. My only issue is it plays too long at two players, even with the card removal of bottom row each turn if no one takes a colonist. Our first game took at least 2.5 hours. By the time you have ten people arrested it all gets a bit repetitive. The rules could be a bit clearer about activation symbols (Puritan, clock, pentagram, hammer), and when and where they are active. I wasn’t sure if some were already active in the play area or only in circles, and the icons were way too small and faint. I paid $40 and I would say that is overpriced. $20 seems about right. Update: mar 2018 - No interest in having a second game due to length and how repetitive it got. sold for $25.
