Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.
Variable Player Powers
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

I really enjoy this worker placement game, and it has a pretty great mechanic where the worker actions are always taken in a particular order, which adds some strategy to the proceedings. If I have a complaint, it's that it seems to end too early, just as the engines start to churn. And the scoring is a tad complex, but the devs thoughtfully have a scoring app built into their website, which eases things up a bit.

How much do you love Salem Witch Trials? You need some cunning planning in order to do well. Very few actions and people can ruin your plans easily. Fairly aggressive gameplay. I liked it well enough with 2p, and I would try with more players to see how it goes.

Really fun game of collecting villagers to power your turn with different abilities, and a fair amount of player sabotage to keep it fun and entertaining!
