After having this on the shelf for a couple of years we started playing it with 4 players. Very good and much more exciting. The historic content gives it a nice edge as well. Not too good for 2 players, though.

I love worker placement and the time period around the Salem witch trials, so this one is a no-brainer for me. It can get thinky, but not in an overwhelming way. Well-balanced. Very thematic, right down to colonist abilities jibing with their real-life actions. I backed the Kickstarter and really enjoy games by this designer.

This is an interesting worker placement game focused around the historical people of Salem. You have two main considerations in growing your circle of followers, as well as jailing citizens who have doubt and accusation layered on them. The noteworthy aspect of this design is the very thoughtful historical considerations clearly baked in, as well as the command of theme within the mechanisms. The game has this excellent arc of growing your gossipers, rewarding your efforts with some minor engine building. As your circle grows in strength it becomes easier to manipulate the winds of the town. This expertly displays the real-world intricacies of group-think and power people can command when they band together in numbers. In many ways, this game is terrifying, not for how it plays, but for what it reveals about society and the time period in which it is set. ------------------------------------- Full review: https://www.miniaturemarket.com/reviewcorner/affliction-salem-1692-review/
