Abyss: Kraken
Expansion of: AbyssThe Smugglers Guild settled in the heart of the giant sea creatures cemetery, in the darkest depths of the Deep kingdom. In this disconcerting necropolis, with the help of mysterious Krakens, representatives of Guilds are trading NEBULIS, wonderful black pearls, that are the unofficial currency of the realm. That’s money stained with blood. They accelerate your way to power, but be careful, because those who are caught with possession face a terrible fate!

Expansion adds more to the game with black pearls and wild guild cards. I think it's good to add but I don't think it's needed. I sort of like Abyss just plain vanilla.

Abyss: Kraken is a fun expansion, but I don't think it's necessarily a must buy. The new black pearls (dirty money) add a fun twist, as do the new Kraken cards that function as wilds for the purpose of buying lords (although they earn you black pearls which are a bitter sweet reward). There are also a lot of new lords added to the lord deck, as well as new areas to acquire. In my opinion, this expansion doesn't modify any of the main mechanics of the base game. It adds extra content and a new layer of strategy with the black pearls, but everything else pretty much remains the same. If you want Abyss to be turned up a notch, I think it's worth a buy. I'm happy with it because it brings it closer to being a heavier weight game (my cup of tea).

Some new options to fatten (or blubber?) up the aquatic intrigues of your next Abyss session. The NEBULIS corruption pearls are quite cool, as are the cards that interact with them, and I also like the Kraken creatures and how they can be used as 'wild cards' for purchasing Lords. As for the new Locations, I feel like the Loot cards and their related choices might be a little too arbitrary, even if their mechanisms are similar to others present in the Exploration phase of the game. Overall, it's a beautiful, nice addition to an already excellent game and helps freshen it up.
