What a thoughtfully crafted game. The art and graphic design blend well together and transport me to a gothic 19th century Paris. The story elements honor Mary Shelley and her book with direct quotes sprinkled here and there. And I love the abundance of worker placement locations to choose from; it makes gameplay feel fresh. Finally, the Prometheus pnp variant turns the game into just the right length for us.

A Euro with a theme that is actually engaging. OK, some issues with game length, but the Igor rule variant does a great deal to address this. For me this elevates the game from a 7 to a solid 8 rating. Not only is there a rich theme, but it is a relatively unvisited one in the horror genre.

First play impressions. Very thematic and the body-building is fun. It has some mechanisms from Dungeon Petz (like food aging), a better/worse worker, interconnected trait dials... all good. And the balance between the asymmetric characters seems solid (although the 0-morals one really is pretty good). A lot to like, but far too lucky for the length. Rolling the dice can have one person making all their parts living in a very lucky roll while another manages to actually lose moral points AND not get anything living, despite them both having maxed expertise. Similarly, card draws can be very lucky/unlucky. The story aspect felt like a tacked on extra luck element because there were so few story passages activated over the whole game. Being about the same length as my full-night heavy games, many of which also have vibrant themes, I just don't see this game having a place in my collection. It's a good game and I might play it for Halloween or some-such, but the luck and length are just at odds with each other.
