Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
In games with a trading mechanic, the players can exchange game items between each other.

This is pretty much identical to the 5-6 player expansion for the original Settlers of Catan. Here it's even worse as the base game is already more complicated and this just adds more. The mammoths literally do nothing, but change the directional rule for breaches. The extra building phase, as in the original, makes the play time longer than it needs to be. The extra heroes are nice, but overall, I would steer clear of this unless you absolutely love this game and always have 5 or 6 people. Even then I would recommend another game.

I would've rated this higher if not for the weird crash grab thing of putting the main protagonist of the Night's Watch on a separate expansion. I really can not believe Jon Snow wasn't in the base game. And it is also really expensive. The content isn't much, just more of the same stuff to have the possibility of playing this with 5-6 players as the usual Catan extension. What comes as an expansion are the mammoths. Which also really don't add much. It is just a small mechanics change but it is fun to have (not for the price tag though, I only bought this cuz it was on sale along with the base game, and it didn't even need a box that big. A half one would be perfect and cheaper) I would not recommend it. Not because is bad (it isn't), but because it is useless and a crash grab (unless you really do need to play with 5 or 6 players, in that case it may be useful, but still a crash grab)
