Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
The simultaneous action selection mechanic lets players secretly choose their actions. After they are revealed, the actions resolve following the rule-set of the game.
Simultaneous Action Selection
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

2012/12 Same good quality as the base game while bringing a needed extension to the estimated lifetime of the base game. By no means necessary but if you feel that you have seen everything 7 Wonders has to offer, this makes the game feel fresh. However, if you are playing with people new to the game and without extensive boardgaming experience, I strongly suggest leaving Leaders out of the equation at first. It is not that the new concepts are more difficult but the base game itself offers enough to learn. 2013/01 8->7

A decent, but not spectacular, addition. Can be game changing of certain leaders crop up that wildly swing the balance to the player who got them.

I played this expansion together with the cities expansion and I don't know how good it is alone. But both of them together give a good depth to the base game. These expansions strengthen all game strategies and give the player a better chance to use science as the main strategy and win the game. but it is still very difficult to win the game in this way.
