I have a hard time rating this expansion. I'm really sold on the concept, and unlike others a fourth political (!) victory condition sounds much more exciting to me than it sounds convoluted. But even more exciting is how they've tried leveraging this new political side to boost the struggling strategic value of existing cards and systems, most notably the early blue cards and the military. Yet the lack of oomph for the military, even as a secondary dimension feels like the designers have missed opportunities. The conspiracy cards are also very iffy. There's too many of them and their effect not straightforward enough to remember them (unlike the gods of Pantheon). I'm not sure whether they are strong and therefore worsen the game's problem of unfair game knowledge, or they are not and therefore bloat the design. Again, why not design something that helps us leverage military power for political or scientific games through spies? I'm torn, so I'll leave my rating to how I judge the design promise. Here's to the dream of a holistic civ-game in a sea of point-races and unidimensional tug-of-wars.

When I got this expansion, it was exactly what I was wanting from 7 Wonders Duel and it made the base game way more playable. Having the political win condition vying for power versus military and science was a breath of fresh air for me when playing 7WD. By adding this expansion, I played much more of 7WD.

Not essential, but a fun way to shake up the game if you have played a lot. I like the extra powers from the senate.
