Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

Super disappointing game. I was very excited for this one, and mechanically, it's almost really good. However, my two chief complaints compelled me to sell it almost immediately after first play: 1) the absurd requirement to perform in big cities being a single card, and the card churn at low player counts, specifically 1-2, just makes this feel arbitrary beyond belief to the point I'm actually not sure you can attribute a good or bad score to anything other than whether that card for the big city flipped off the top of the deck at the right time by chance; and 2) the tableau building was rather cumbersome without any sort of real payoff for any kind of interesting effect. Big miss. I see what's clever, but I didn't like it at all.

Played at 2 player. No doubt not the best player count but felt very flat. The mechanisms don't really work thematically and the game arc suffers because of this. You don't get to experience the rise from a provincial show to become a rival to Barnum in the big cities. The most money you will make is at the start when you do the smallest shows, and even then it's usually a difference between 3 and 1 of the money cards. This creates a bottleneck to purchasing better performers which ultimately makes the process of "planning" the running order of your circus unsatisfying. The way that cards can be bought at discount and slotted into a grid to create scoring synergies and cover up bonus spaces is interesting and occasionally fun, but is pretty unthematic and feels like it could do with more development. The area control was so so. As ever with Devir brilliant production, presentation, art and graphic design.

It is not a complex game, but as an acrobat for work I love it. There's enough to keep me engaged the while time, while being enough choices to not feel stale. Game did not overstay its welcome it was a great length.
