Star Wars: Destiny – Two-Player Game

Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

See comment on entry for Star Wars Destiny. This set for a lighter two-player game can be an easy and cheap method to see if the entire Destiny system is something worth investing in. Good: * Cheap way to demonstrate the Destiny system. * Decent abilities included in cards to give a good overview. Not so good: * Not even enough cards included for full decks for two players, but still playable. * If you want more variety, be prepared to spend money.

Star Wars: Destiny has few simple rules, and can be picked up pretty easily by anyone familiar with FFG's living card games (but even by casual players), and has a very fast and furious gameplay. There is a constant back and forth between players, exchanging blows and tricks in a frantic way... The game has a surprising number of decision points, though: which cards to discard to re-roll dice, when to drop off the turn to claim a Battlefield, the timing and target of attacks. The Two-Player Game is a good entry point into the system.

I got into this game just as it was dying out. Too bad cuz it's great. Hopefully FFG reskins it and tinkers with the format to make it more sustainable. Anyone try the Encounters solo variant?
