2 - 5 Players

Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
Maneuvers that directly attack an opposing player's strength, level, life points or do something else to impede their progress.

What I consider to be Exploding Kittens's direct competitor, Unstable Unicorns differs from it's competitor by being a lengthier game more focused on set collection and "take that" elements of gameplay. While the game itself is perfectly serviceable and may appeal to others, I found this game to be alright up until the mid-endgame, where multiple people are going at each other to stop the other from winning and the constant "take that" elements start to get draining, to a point where you just want the game to end.

Build your stable, screw your friends. I love the artwork in this game, but the mechanics are a little boring with less than 3 players.

Probably one of the worst games I've ever played. At higher player counts it drags on forever; you make a little progress on your turn and then get bumped back by the next. There's barely any interesting choices to make, aside from ruining the progress of others. There's no sadistic pleasure in that either because everyone's progress and actions just feels meaningless. Maybe tolerable if you want something mindless or super simple for kids, but at that point I'd rather watch paint dry.
