Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Games that use the Memory mechanic require players to recall previous game events or information in order to reach an objective.

It's okay, but the information sharing/acquisition system is kind of flaky, and I don't like the fact that information can be discarded (because you thought you didn't need it) and then you can't access it anymore. You have to try to remember it ... it's just not what I'm looking for in a deduction game.

Got this half price so it was a bargain. Fairly similar to Decktective games, but with 3 slightly smaller cases in the box. So far, the Last Call case was enjoyable. Keen to play the other 2. The Decktective system is better because A) You get to make a little crime scene which has visual clues. B) the cards are ordered so you have a better chance of working out what clues are important and which are not. In the Sherlock Files your start cards are random so it's luck if you get important clues early on or late.

I'm not a huge fan of memory in board games, but I enjoyed this series much more than I expected. I liked the creative ending in most of the stories--this game encourages you to think outside the box.
