Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Pattern Building is a system where players place game components in specific patterns in order to gain specific or variable game results. For example: placing chips on 2, 4, 6, 8 on a board gets the player an action card they can use later in the game.
Pattern Building
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.

need more shelf space, and this is a really sharp game, very quirky. would totally keep but kind of burned out on zoo theme

2021-05: A cool puzzle game with a lot going for it and an unforgivable problem (imho). I love building the zoo up and the core puzzle of having to fit the right animals into the right habitats together is fantastic. I also really like how fast the game ends and variable vp goal set up. It could have been among my favorite games if that was everything. It lost significant points with me by having the unique animals all identical. The uniting thread that they have to be alone in a habitat removed them from the most interesting puzzle in the game and simultaneously removed from the "unique animals" any semblance of personality. I recognize it would have been difficult to give them unique mechanics given the relatively simple nature of the design, but any differentiation would have been better. I just couldn't get over this. YMMV.

Great game with a bit of drafting and puzzle building in a quick package. Plays well in solo up to 4 players.
