Spy Club I find unusual for a co-op in that it is fairly light on mechanics and has a theme approachable enough that families and light gamers can pick this up quickly and play the game. On the other hand, there is more strategy than it would first seem appear, and with serious gamers, this turns out to quite a brainburner of a game - compared to other co-ops, this involves as much thinking as Space Sheep or even Spirit Island. To be clear, the fact that this is approachable for families but has depth for serious gamers is definitely a compliment. The modules really do seem to change the way the game is strategized/played - even when the rule changes/additions themselves are minor - this speaks to the underlying robustness of the basic game system. The only complaint I have with the game would be that while this has a great theme (and graphic design) and mechanics, they don't match particularly well, so it can feel like just playing an abstract set collection game at times. On the other hands, the campaign modules seem to help with the problem so far.

Kind of surprised by how much I liked this game. Challenging enough on the harder difficulty and the campaign aspects change the game enough to make it interesting, but not so much as to make it fiddly. I Kickstarted this, and when I received it and read the rules, I thought maybe I had made a mistake and got a game a little too light to hit the table very often. After playing it a handful of times, I'm no longer concerned. While the game is on the lighter side, the decisions and teamwork actions make the game quite enjoyable. It doesn't hurt that it doesn't overstay it's welcome. You can knock out a 3 player game in around 30-40 minutes. The shear amount of cards included in the campaign ensures that every game in a campaign will be slightly different for a good, long while. Great little game.
