Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

Really great little card game. Some very non-obvious decisions drive the play and create some exciting moves. The box size can't be beat and production is wonderful. Definitely a keeper!

Amazing! Cards shedding with double ended cards. Start with a hand of cards where you can't change the order. Play singles, pairs, sets and runs to beat the cards on the table - or take one of the table cards into your hand to improve your hand. Along the way the table cards fluctuate as cards are played and collected - the ebb and flow is both tense and a with much frivolity. An utterly unique experience.

Scout is a fun take on the ladder climbing genre that my group has really taken to. There's much to like about it: a typical game gives you lots of interesting decisions to make, and there's a really enjoyable balance between trying to enrich your hand and trying to lay out and score. It generates some nice tension as players take different approaches to the early part of the hand, and the scouting mechanic can help resuscitate even a very poor initial deal. The Oink edition is a bit pricey for what comes in the box, but the core game is excellent and its quick playtime gives you lots of occasion to get it on the table.
