This mechanic requires you to place a bid, usually monetary, on items in an auction of goods in order to enhance your position in the game. These goods allow players future actions or improve a position. The auction consists of taking turns placing bids on a given item until one winner is established, allowing the winner to take control of the item being bid on. Usually there is a game rule that helps drop the price of the items being bid on if no players are interested in the item at its current price.

The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
The simultaneous action selection mechanic lets players secretly choose their actions. After they are revealed, the actions resolve following the rule-set of the game.

Finally played Rival Restaurants by @gapclosergames and had a great time! ? — In Rival Restaurants, players will be running their own respective restaurants specializing in different cuisines, striving to make it to the top of the food industry by reaching 20 popularity points first. — First of all, this game is definitely beautifully produced, with its components very sturdy and art cute, quirky and really cool. — I really love how the rules are pretty quick, easy and a breeze to teach and play. I also love all the laughs we got from it especially during the buy and barter phase which provided a lot of fun player interaction among everybody. Another thing that stands out in this game is how they managed to integrate the theme of the game and made it even more fun by adding twists in forms of quirky ingredients like Alien Goo (which counts as a wild ingredient) and catchy restaurant names. — Although Take That mechanisms are not really my cup of tea, this game integrated such elements gracefully in a way that it complemented the game and made it banterful instead of annoying. — My group and I really had a great time trying this out, and agreed that this is a perfect gateway game to introduce non gamers to the hobby or to bring out during family game nights. ?

Pros: The artwork and theme for this game is fantastic and draws you in. There is definitely a fun factor to collecting ingredients and building your unique recipes. Having to collect garbage for each completed dish is a great risk/reward element. Cons: My initial impressions of this game (after 4-5 plays) is that the Buy and Barter phase is a too chaotic and confusing (full confession I'm not a lover of chaotic party games) and the combination of Chef Abilities, Action Cards, Popularity Level Benefits, Mystery Mart ingredients, Restaurant Upgrades, etc., while providing a lot replayability, creates a lot of unnecessary complexity. Bottom Line: The main mechanics are simple and the idea is good but the all these added elements make the game clunky and zap some of the fun out of the experience. My kids like this game (ages 7 + 9) but we've modified the Buy and Barter phase to be turn-order-based and basically ignore the Action cards. I was pretty excited about this game and hoping for a family favourite but, at this point, I don't see this game staying in my collection very long.

While its a fun game it feels more a younger person's game , its hard to play it at a table that everyone can reach everything due to the timer during the "Buy & Barter" phase . And if you have the need to keep tabs on purchases it becomes to overwhelming in the 1 minute (sand timer) everyone has (simultaneous actions) while trying to do your stuff. The timed round is the only part of the game that feels like your playing a multiplayer game. Everything else is kinda bland. For kida 10 yrs old or thereabouts this most likely is a great game.
