Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

The game was decent for what it is. I'd never played the original game before so I wasn't aware that it was so luck-based, which really isn't my type of game. For those who do like dice folling, I'm sure they will like this more. The legacy elements were well done and kept the game fresh as the campaign progressed. The components were well-designed as well. All in all, I think it's a decent game, but I just need a bit more from a legacy game, even if it is a "light" one. If someone is looking for a legacy game without jumping into the deep end of the pool, I would highly recommend My City before Machi Koro.

I had fun with this as a legacy campaign, and I'm glad it can be played as a stand-alone now that I'm done with it. I don't know when I would choose it over Space Base, though. The Legacy elements were never terribly surprising, and you only make a few choices that feel impactful. It was a fun experience, though at a certain point it's very clear there's a really over powered strategy available. After discovering it, I just never did it again and the experience was more enjoyable. It's charming in its own way - a GREAT first-time legacy experience, but sadly I think Space Base does what this game does, even with everything unlocked, better. Maybe I'll pull it out again sometime, but I'm not sure when.

It started of as better than Machi Koro, and it probably still is, but not by much; the later games seem to slow down, and the luck of the dice can be pretty huge and swingy, and some of the game mechanics mean that you can often see who is going to win and that means that the other players will then prepare for the next game in terms of some of the choices they do, but that then means that the winning player can also focus on that and then stall the game... Don't need to finish the campaign, too long and boring.
