In-game money is bet on different commodities in hope that that particular commodity will become the most valuable as the game progresses. Often the values of the commodities are continually changing throughout the game, and the players buy and sell the commodities to make money off of their investment.
Commodity Speculation
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

I prefer a game like scrabble which is really a tile management and positional board game than a word-making game. The special tiles, and the shared tiles in the middle are all a bit much for me. Some of the special tiles feel overpowered - making 2 words, adding an s at the end, and whether you are eligible to get those in just luck of the draw.

Monopoly-Scrabble. As with every Scrabble derivative, there's a lot of AP searching for the best word. Also, I feel like some of the patent abilities are kind of broken.
Egwood
Probably the best word game I've played, I rate this higher than Paperback. We do have some houserules regarding the common letters, other than that extremely well done, with great production value.
