Pattern Building is a system where players place game components in specific patterns in order to gain specific or variable game results. For example: placing chips on 2, 4, 6, 8 on a board gets the player an action card they can use later in the game.
Pattern Building
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.

It's no surprise to me that this game is as good as it is, considering it's from a veritable all-star team of designer Peter McPherson, artist Ian O'Toole, and publisher Flatout Games. Fit to Print is consistent with Flatout's previous titles in being another devilishly clever tile-laying spatial puzzle, but what makes this one so fresh is the addition of the real-time aspect. And the best part is that it pulls off being a timed experience without creating too harried or stressful an experience -- which usually deters me from real-time games. It's just enough to keep you focused and on your toes, and works perfectly with the "get it to print" nature of the newspaper publishing theme. There's a solid solo mode in the box, which is another Flatout trademark that I appreciate greatly. Even better, it comes with six solo puzzles using specific tile combinations, adding another solo challenge to the experience beyond the standard solo game.

adore this game. I'm definitely not always into real-time, but the theming on this one is perfect. I love the way it forces you to play from the gut. the way you have to collect things and your little cute desk quickly gets cluttered up is too fun, but then having to decide when to switch into layout mode is excruciating in the best way. I can see where it would stress some folks out, but I just have such a blast frantically trying to get a half-decent layout together and then having the slow reveal of scoring where you see how you did. and then the art and design just elevate it all to the next level. a new favorite for me.

Very easy to teach and learn, but a deviously thinky little puzzle that's quick to play and loads of fun.
