Capital Lux 2: Pocket (Kickstarter Edition)
25m - 40m
2 - 4 Players
Ages 10+
Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

The deck of cards is divided into four suits with values of 2-6. In each of 3 rounds, players pass-and-draft a hand of six cards and then each turn they play a card in front of them or to the center of the table - the capital. In either case, cards are divided by suit and the value of cards in a suit are added in each location. The object at the end of the round is to come close to, but not exceed, the value of the capital suits. If you are under you keep your cards in that suit, if you are over the "capital limit" in a suit, you lose those cards. The player closest to the capital limit without going over gets a random bonus card to set aside for end scoring. At the end of the game, you add up the cards remaining in your tableaus and your bonus cards and most points wins. The interesting wrinkle comes from the powers. Each suit grants a special power when you play to the capital and these powers do a good job of mixing things up a bit. They may give you neutral cards or an additional action or so on. This could lead to some players having more cards and cards left over get added to your tableau, so there's a nice interactive element of should I slow or rush the round and what will that do to the other players? The game isn't revelatory by any means, but I think this is a pretty good filler, with some decent considerations, that should go down pretty well no matter who is at the table.

What a quick playing, yet very strategic game this is. This is absolutely better than Capital Lux 1 as there's more variety. And boy is there variety, even in this pocket edition. Unless this is played weekly I don't see needing the full version. Plenty of replay-ability in this box.

Such a great game. It's core System ist so simple but at the same time very thinky, bluffy and with a ton of possible strategies.
