Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.

First play impressions. Much better than anticipated. Hard not to get into the theme and very much sometivates you to squeeze out a few more points. Beautiful, but also crunchy enough to be interesting. Great title.

I felt like the game would be beautiful but it missed a bit on this count. The painting pieces are plastic with full on them which makes them milky, remove the film and they will become scuffed easily. The play mat is an awful flimsy thing that takes away from the presentation and the wooden pieces are only screen printed on one side. It's a decent game for lite gaming, and maybe even pairing with Modern Art for a family style game night. Game play is good if you stick with their outlined scenarios. If you mix and match the scoring cards most paintings just don't have enough umpph on their own to keep you interested. Lite games that are low scoring play in the boring side. It also helps if you give players one point for every inspiration token they have at the end of the game. Made slightly better with the expansion and one house rule but still not a great game. Will keep it due to its unique nature.
