Pattern Building is a system where players place game components in specific patterns in order to gain specific or variable game results. For example: placing chips on 2, 4, 6, 8 on a board gets the player an action card they can use later in the game.

We played the game with many different type of people. Different age, different nationality, different gender... all of them enjoyed pretty much. Short pretty good game even for people, which are not fans of abstract games.

There's some cool elements to this game, notably that at the start of the round you're not quite sure if you're playing cards that will be on your side of the scoring or your opponents. I like that the game is quite confrontational, you're directly able to manipulate your opponents side of the board or set up your own. Fighting for the points each round largely comes down to making sure you win the various majorities the cards are asking you to fight for. This is where one of the major weaknesses comes in though--the card draws can really stifle your goals as you only have three options of what to play at any given time. This still gives a nice level of control, but personally I think sometimes it's a bit annoying. The private goals each round are fairly minor and feel a bit too much of the same, wish there was a tad more variety in those. Overall it was an enjoyable enough game, but I strongly suspect this is one I'd only ever want to play here and there, not one I'd ever want to play dozens of times.

Fun small card laying game trying to get the colors to match objective cards. The dynamic nature of the board is interesting until it gets locked. Reminded me of kintsugi from button shy games
