Your friend’s mysterious disappearance results in the discovery of an unusual item, leading you to embark on a journey through time and memory. In this narrative puzzle adventure, an intimate coming-of-age story is told through an object that serves as a tarot deck, a puzzle game, and a work of art. You will need to manipulate cards, find hidden messages, and solve logic and word problems in order to uncover the deck’s secrets.
The tarot deck contains 78 cards–56 Minor Arcana and 22 Major Arcana, the latter of which each represent a puzzle. Puzzles are solved using sets of Minor Arcana cards and clues from the story booklet and result in solution keywords that lead players to discover new pieces of the narrative. Some story passages grant items which can be later used to unlock extra scenes, and some puzzles have multiple answers, allowing players to unlock more of the story if they find all the solutions.
Packed with gorgeous illustrations, resonant storytelling, and unique puzzles, The Light in the Mist can be played solo or cooperatively in a small group. It’s non-linear structure and varied puzzle difficulty will engage players of all experience levels with over five hours of gameplay. Do you have what it takes to overcome the challenges thrown your way without getting lost in the mist?

really cool gimmick (puzzles found in the art of the cards of a tarot deck), though there were a few too many puzzles that all led to very similar scenes. i get that the whole deck had to be used, but i feel like the number of puzzles and resulting scenes could have been cut in half and still been satisfying.

First puzzle type game for me. Not able to solve any puzzles without hints/solutions. With older eyesight just couldn't see the patterns in the cards. The artwork is very beautiful and card quality excellent. Decided not to leave a rating as I would rate low based on my experience but if you are into puzzle games this would likely be a fine choice.

I backed this game on Kickstarter and was not disappointed! The story is engaging and the art is fantastic. The best aspect is the gameplay itself. The puzzles are elegant and varied, and have a range of difficulty. Once solved, the answers are “obvious”—that is, I never wonder if I’ve solved correctly and know exactly how I arrived at the solution. This is a rarity in puzzle/escape room-styled games. I opted to solve individually and only 1-2 cards at a time so as to spread out the magic. Once I’ve completely solved, I plan to loan it to a friend (I appreciate the extra backpack so that it can be solved twice!) and then keep it as a functioning tarot deck and art piece. Highly recommended.
