Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

It's a nice coop. It has a lot of the original game's elements and interactions (obviously, hugely simplified) and the overall goals are the same. However, this game is far from being a chill out experience. At the contrary, it's pretty hard with little room for mistakes. There's a significant amount of luck involved also but, in most of the cases, the upgrades and items will lend you a huge hand. It does suffer from alpha playing but, curiously, since you need to be very precise with the actions you take, I'd say it's almost recommended to have it. For that reason, I wouldn't play this game with more than 2 people and controlling 3 characters in total. There's a few fiddly rules and elements; some important items are super hard to get (or heavily-luck dependant) and some others are literally useless (like fiber) so you may need to add some home rules to mitigate this but it's not a big deal. Overall, I like this game. It may be frustrating and it's rushing you all the time but it reminds me of those speed runs where streamers beat the game in just one year.

Screw the naysayers, yall complaining about luck go play Eldritch Horror and come back to me, I felt like there were plenty of little ways to improve your chances - this game is an efficiency puzzle. There is a huge amount of joy in just adding little items to my little inventory with my little tool upgrades and building my little farm and rolling my little dice to fish. I really quite like it. For solo, definitely at least play two-handed, I didn't like it at all true solo. I wish the animals weren't almost completely useless and unbalanced considering how many resources and turns it takes to actually get them. Those get completely ignored if they're not a specific objective. Some random house rules to give a little more agency/tactics: - for villagers draw 2 and pick 1 - for Mine dice after rolling, pick from the two possible column/row values - idk maybe update the fish track more often somehow The art design is top notch. Pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this compared to other co-ops (for one thing, there isn't a relentless negative event deck beating you down every turn, so failing a dice roll doesn't feel quite as bad). You will usually always get *something* on your turn just by moving and foraging. There's nice little optimizations like revealing several bundles in one go; once I finish a game I often immediately want to have another go to see what I could do better. It's fun to see what comes out of the item and event decks. Boohoo about your legendary fish quest. The tokens don't go back in the bag and you can get fish in other ways, idk, take out the card if you need to. Pick your professions AFTER you see the goals, then focus on getting fishing upgrades.
