Stardew Valley: The Board Game
45m - 200m
1 - 4 Players
Ages 13+
Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

I'm not sure why Peaceful Farming Simulator 2021 is so damn difficult. It's sort of like if going to the mines was every single day of the video game and the game uninstalled itself if you didn't get enough gold ore in your trip. That said... I had a good time. It's pretty, it makes me smile, but it's really not Stardew Valley: The Video Game in a box.

PENDING FINAL RATING a few things stood out on playing this game for the first time. Its a lot of Mini games within this single game, the game has no sense of scaling for number of players (which can be unfair, or since so many systems and mini games can make turns long), the objectives can be totally random and totally unfair. Okay component production, no real storage in the box. Thematically (from someone not played the videogame) some things don't make sense. Good things are a lot of variety in all the decks (might also be to much variety leading to crap turns). Good artwork, and fun components to play with.

The board game is a loving representation of the classic Stardew Valley video game. The game itself has some balance issues, however. The sheer number of hearts needed simply to reveal all of the bundles in the game is staggering, and some of the Grandpa’s goals items are significantly more/less difficult than others. Overall the experience is really enjoyable although straight up punishing in its need for efficiency and good luck.
