Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

Rating based on one 2-player game. High quality game for the price, bit of an initial learning curve but like most games you settle in fine after a few turns. It's generally a co-op but potentially adversarial though how much you can "lie" and hide your intention seems a little messy. The theme of the game seems more tacked on than anything else but the suspense is there. This game needs several plays to know the cards and what you could do with them. It seems hard to win since healing is rare (we were both witnesses and made it to the final few road spots before dying). Be interested to try where one of us is an assassin and also the 3-player mode and with the add-on decks. My overall feeling is this won't hit the table often but it still fills a unique space amidst my collection so I will hold onto it.

I ultimately got rid of it not because the game is uninteresting, but because it's fighting for space in a section of my collection that doesn't have much room to give. I primarily play two-player games with my partner at home, and she wasn't into Mantis Falls at all. When I do get people over to play head-to-head games (which is rare), it tends to be with people who would rather play an abstract game or (if we're interested in playing a social deduction game as a one-v-one) Pagan. It just became a casualty to competition, because the game is very solid. Lots of interesting decisions even if the actual gameplay is pretty unintuitive at first. You'll probably have a blast with this if you can find a partner who will play this with you again and again.

[October 2022] A social deduction game for two players. This shouldn't be able to work but Mantis Falls pulls it off. You are either both witnesses and the game is cooperative, or one of the players is an assassin making the game competitive. Your role is hidden throughout the game. It is very well implemented and a stunning production too.
