You feel it just below the surface. Something gnawing at the edges of society, an ancient being that could so easily erase the steady march of machines and concrete that have come to be recognized as progress in the modern world. Your visions show you a desolate future, where all that remains is dust, ash, and those who have long-slumbered.

I've been quietly playing and collecting FF's lovecraftian I.Ps since 2005 and I haven't seen a small-box expansion of this quality until now. Cities In Ruin should be the new golden standard to which future small-box expansions are compared. It feels thematically transformative as one would expect from a big-box with the smaller injection on new content. The design of the new mechanics harmonize and underscore the theatricality and story offered by the new mythos and encounters. Signs of Carcosa was to Cities in Ruin as At The Mountains of Madness was to Under the Pyramids; the imperfect harbinger before the release of a new pinnacle for the I.P. I'm sure I will have criticisms that arise from future play but my first impression was exciting and lasting. TLDR Excellent would highly recommend.

More of everything which is never bad, but brings along the Devastation mechanic, taking city spaces out of play - possibly the best additional mechanic of them all. A real breathe of fresh air!

2017 My favorite so far of the smaller expansion boxes. The devastation mechanic makes Shudde M'ell really stand out as an AO, and the inclusion of the devastation mechanic in a prelude and many of the Mythos cards allows this to come into play in games not featuring this AO.
