Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
In storytelling games, players are provided with conceptual, written, or pictorial stimuli which must be incorporated into a story of the players' creation.

It is an interesting game, but better played solo. We played 2 times with 4 people and it's mostly luck. First game we played well but got destroyed by terrible dice rolls and lost, second game we lucked out and finished the game without my character, Captain Chen, not needing to take a single action.

The first time I played this we beat it really fast. Not sure if we got lucky or if the game is just that easy. It was entertaining though, and I would like to play again to see if we do as well.

I read these books as a kid and my kids read them more recently. My 11 year old son and I played this game and we were entertained enough for a while. It's more of just a super corny story like the old one with a few choice about who handles a challenges and who gets equipment and such. It's mostly just a silly story with a lot of luck, but memories of the books is fun... the stories in this game are new. If you're looking for a good game, stay away. If you're looking for an old choose your own adventure story with some game-like stuff in there then this might be good for you.
