Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.

Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.
Variable Player Powers
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

It was a slog getting to the end, but in the final round the game broke, everybody started cheating, and we all had fun.

Really wanted to like this, but it felt very forced. Too much going on, and none of it felt substantial enough to warrant the attention. Only a single play, and nobody seems to want to buy my copy, so perhaps I'll play again, but I found it surprisingly bland.

Deluxe Kickstarter Edition Very fun game, with a bit of a bias towards pushing the "science" section as a favored strategy. There can also be a push for the limited body part resources, which can hamper those that don't get them. But, the building and joining of the player pieces and the variety of functionality as a result is quite fun.
