Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

Pattern Building is a system where players place game components in specific patterns in order to gain specific or variable game results. For example: placing chips on 2, 4, 6, 8 on a board gets the player an action card they can use later in the game.

Downgraded from 7.5 - we did the 10x10 challenge in 2016 and we really noticed it is not very good as a 2-player, and that it can be frustrating to faff around with points when winning is all about championships.

I adore new innovative ways to use dice, which is exactly what Blueprints brings to the table. Despite being a dice fest, Blueprints manages to diminish the impact of sheer luck to an acceptable level, i.e., there is still plenty of room for strategy. Every turn you are contemplating whether to take your most wanted die or block your opponents. Calculating the immediate swing in victory points is usually easy, but at the same time you might be losing the opportunity to score some big points in the future. This makes the decisions meaningful, which is essential for a game to appeal to my taste. As I wrote above, it is usually easy to keep track of the situation in spite of the player screens. You are only taking six dice from the table per round, and at least I was able to remember everything other players took without an effort. There were even situations when I was able to tell my opponent which die he should take. And none of this requires Rainman characteristics from you. For Blueprints to be perfect, it would have needed more rounds or more liberties so that keeping track of everything was not possible. Some push your luck elements would’ve been nice as well. But luckily, a game does not need to be perfect for it to be enjoyable. I would certainly play again. I might even ask someone to bring this to the game night.

I did enjoy the game, and stacking dice is always fun - however, it's still a dice game, and it can be tough to win if the dice you want never show up. Would happily play again.
