Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Variable Phase Order implies that turns may not be played the same way as before and/or after.

I love deckbuilders and I love co-op, but this missed the mark for me. Its a bit nebulous to say, but I just didn't find this game 'fun', it felt more like a chore that outstayed its welcome.

Cooperative deck builder with a lot of control over the deck. Players try to defend a town against hordes of demons coming from a portal. Pros: + Components: life wheel, player boards, cards. + Many characters who have different start conditions and special abilities. Playing another character feels slightly different. + Plenty of bosses that change up strategy and gameplay. Each boss represents a kind of different scenario. A boss deck is randomly seeded with specific boss cards which makes the boss quite thematic. + A lot of control on manipulating your deck. + Variability: many upgrade cards available and each game you play with different cards, and against a different boss. + Different difficulty levels. The game is quite hard. + Managing and balancing your health and unlock your portals. + Balancing your damage output: either hurt the boss or minions. + Set-up is quite fast, but you need some kind of organisation for all the different card decks. + Cooperation by healing, absorbing damage, or finishing enemies. + Player order system: each round turn order cards are shuffled (including the boss). This adds some unpredicatbility. + Easy to teach and play. Neutrals: # Artwork is okay (second edition). # Theme is generic. # Plenty of expansion content available (money sink) # Solo mode. # Being alpha leader is rather difficult because of hand cards. # Gameplay of player characters could feel more differently. Cons: - There are a lot of upgrade cards. You use 9 of each type each game, but these upgrade cards are oftentimes only a variation of other cards. They feel quite similar. Moreover, the 9 upgrade cards do not change over the course of the game, which isn't enough variety for me in a game (Astro Knights does it differently). - Set-up ist quite tedious because of separating the cards: boss deck and market cards (Astro Knights does it differently). Similar games: * Astro Knights: same game in space, easier set-up: unique deck of cards for each boss, more variety in the card market display. * XenoShyft (Starship Troopers theme, coop deck builder, players can help each other with cards, more chaotic) * Marvel Legendary * Shadowrun: Crossfire (Very good solo and cooperative deck building game. The difficulty is very challenging. It has a legacy system which takes ages to level up / grinding)

Good looking, quick, smooth gameplay. For me it felt like an abstract puzzle, didn't feel the theme.
